Vigorous Academics for 21st Century Citizens

For years at St. George's, we have referred to our educational program as “academically vigorous” - as opposed to “academically rigorous.” The distinction is important. While the former infers a learner who is intellectually engaged with his or her teacher and classmates, the latter connotes rote memorization, a rigid curriculum, and a school environment that that does not inspire a love of learning. We believe our brand of education produces students who enjoy learning, who can grapple with important questions by employing critical thinking skills, and who have learned, through the St. George’s experience, the importance of good citizenship. All of these elements are critical to success in today’s increasingly global and interconnected world. The future requires students to be well versed in 21st century skills of collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership; at St. George’s, lessons in these 21st century skills begin in prekindergarten and continue through to twelfth grade.
