Coach Mark Bran joined St. George's Independent School in February of 2011. Originally from Memphis, he brings with him 25 years of competition and coaching experience. Coach Bran was a member of the Men's 5.0 National Qualifying Team in 1999, and he competed in the National Championships in Flushing meadows, NY, that same year. In 1997 he was named the Tennessee Tennis Pro of the Year for his outstanding leadership in growing the game in our area. In 1992 Coach Bran was a quarter-finalist in the United States Professional Tennis Association International Doubles Championship in Palm Springs, CA and was ranked No. 1 in the USTA Southern Region in Men's Open Doubles. Coach Bran played college tennis at Delta State University, where he captured a conference title in doubles and was an All-Conference selection.
Coach Bran is a member of several professional tennis and athletic associations, including the United States Professional Tennis Association, the USTA, and the American Sports Builders Association, and he is past president of the Memphis Professional Tennis Association. He has always been actively involved in community service and hopes to continue that work. His past experiences include working with the Special Olympics for Tennessee and creating and implementing Game! Set! Match! - a tennis-focused drug free education program for schools. Prior to joining the coaching staff at St. George's, Coach Bran was on staff at Memphis University School's Dunavant-Wellford Tennis Center as tennis professional and middle school tennis coach. He was head tennis professional at the Bluewater Bay Tennis Center in Niceville, FL. His previous work experience also includes serving as owner and president of Derrick Barton Tennis Court Construction and as the Director of Tennis at Colonial Country Club in Memphis, TN. He currently lives in Collierville, TN with his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Kristina '07, Alex '12, Annie '19 and Matthew '21. His oldest child, Jessica Bran Butler, lives in Memphis with her husband, Wes.
