PREREGISTRATION AND SCHEDULING TIMELINE
Course Handbook published: The Course Handbook will be published on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Parents and students may begin reading course
descriptions for the coming year. Information
on course placement and selection polices, as well as example course sequence
plans, can be found inside. You can find
the Course Handbook on the Academics
page of the Collierville campus
website. An email will also go to
parents and students.
Preregistration forms distributed: Online forms used for indicating course preferences for the
coming year will be distributed to students and parents the week of January 18 . Each form is tailored to the next grade level
for students. This year’s upper school
forms will also have information useful for parents and students to ensure that
individual plans account for our graduation requirements.
Students meet with advisors to discuss course
preferences: Between January 18 and February 6, each student
will meet with an advisor for input on what might be the best schedule of courses
for the coming year. We also ask that students
discuss options with parents so each child can get the best information
possible when deciding what to take.
Preregistration forms due: Printed and signed copies of the online forms are due Tuesday, February 26, to each student's advisor.
Forms received on time receive preference in the scheduling
process. Students can still request
course changes after this point.
Course preferences evaluated by departments, guidance
and counseling, and administrators: During February and March, course preferences
will be evaluated by academic departments, guidance and counseling, and administrators. The goal is to ensure that each student’s
requested schedule of courses is commensurate with past performance and promise
for overall success. We take a holistic
approach to the process that accounts for intellectual curiosity in the
discipline, effort, standardized test scores, and grades from the current
year. More information on this process is available in the Course Handbook.
The scheduling process begins: In April,
we begin building the academic schedule for next year. During this stage, we will work with students
and families to resolve any of the inevitable conflicts that may arise. We do our absolute best to minimize the
conflicts we experience. Students can
still request course changes after this point; however, they will be subject to
scheduling conflicts.
Final course listing mailed to families: The finalized list of courses will be mailed soon after year-end grades. This list can be used
for ordering textbooks.
Thank you for reading this
timeline so closely. The first few days of school are the most
important of the year. Our hope is that
finalizing courses earlier will ensure a smoother beginning for families and
teachers alike. As always, we invite your
questions.
